Ed Woodcock, founder of Resurface

Where it started

I shot video for a living: corporate events, promotional films, travel. Every job ended on a drive, and the drives piled up.

The footage kept earning, when I could find it. A client would ask for a clip from an event two years back. A new job needed b-roll I knew I'd already shot. Each time, I lost an afternoon scrubbing through drives, work nobody pays for.

When I finally mounted all ten SSDs in one dock, the count came to about 35,000 shots. Nobody was ever going to log that by hand.

So I built something to do the watching for me. Resurface reads every shot while I get on with paid work, and nothing ships until it works on that archive.
